The colour modes are what people stop you about on the firing line. Acetech give you seven fixed colours to pick from, and then three effects that move: RGB flashes red, green and blue in sections along the path the BB takes; rainbow does the same across all seven colours; and dynamic rainbow keeps shifting as you fire. There is a demo mode on top of that for when the gun is on a table rather than in your hands. The fixed colours and the moving effects suit different ammunition — some of the colour modes read better against white BBs than against green tracers, and both look worth having.
Underneath the light show it is a competent tracer. Green luminous BBs pass through and come out glowing, which on a night game tells you more about where your hop is sending rounds in one magazine than an afternoon of guessing on a range. Gel balls are supported too, so the unit is not stranded if you also shoot a gel blaster.
Practical things are handled. Power is managed intelligently rather than left to a switch you will forget, so battery life holds up between games. Charging is USB Type-C. The housing is metal, and the adapter in the box takes it from the 14mm counter-clockwise thread most rifles use down to the 11mm clockwise thread found on a lot of gas pistols, which means one unit covers both without another purchase.
If you want the same unit in something other than black, it also comes in brass and titanium finishes.

Good to know
Which mode should I start with? Pick a single colour while you get used to it, then try rainbow once it is dark. The moving effects are more visible to everyone else than they are to you behind the gun.
Does the flame effect need tracer BBs? No. The muzzle effect fires as a round passes regardless of what you have loaded. Only the glowing trail needs green luminous ammunition.
Does it fit a pistol? Yes, using the supplied adapter, which steps the 14mm counter-clockwise thread down to 11mm clockwise.
Is it the same as the MKII? Acetech publish the same headline features for both. The MKII is the later revision and carries their US, Australian and Japanese patents. Neither page claims a performance difference over the other.
