Gas blowback (GBB) pistols use green gas, propane, or CO2 stored in the magazine to drive the slide, which gives the realistic recoil feel and slide-lock-on-empty behaviour that competitive shooters and milsim players want. HPA-adapted pistols use an external air line from a regulator instead of internal gas — same trigger feel, consistent across temperature, no gas-cool effect on rapid fire. Both have their place; GBB is more common, HPA is the upgrade path.
