Under UK law, any airsoft gun with a realistic finish is classified as a Realistic Imitation Firearm (RIF) under the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006. Buying a RIF requires the buyer to hold a recognised defence — for most players that's UKARA registration, earned by playing three games over 56+ days at a registered site. A two-tone gun is one where the original manufacturer or a paint shop has applied bright colour (blue, orange, pink, or green) to enough of the gun's surface that it no longer counts as a "realistic imitation" — making it legal to buy without UKARA.
The internals are identical to the realistic version. A two-tone G&G CM16 fires the same way as a black CM16, at the same FPS, with the same magazines and battery. The only difference is the external finish. This means a two-tone rifle is a fully capable airsoft primary you can take to a site and play with from day one — no waiting period required. Once you've played your three games over 56+ days at a UKARA-registered site like Skirmish Wycombe, you can register for UKARA and start buying realistic-finish RIFs.
Practical buyer notes. Most two-tone rifles in this collection are AEGs — M4-pattern and AK-pattern are most common, though we occasionally stock two-tone pistols and sniper rifles. Some players keep their two-tone rifle as a backup or loaner gun even after they have UKARA — the bright colour can actually help with team identification at indoor CQB. The two-tone paint can be professionally re-finished to a realistic colour once you have UKARA, though by that point most players have moved on to a higher-spec rifle anyway.
