Case Locks

Lock the case, lock the rifle. The small accessory that turns a hard case into a UKARA-compliant transport solution and keeps your gear secure in storage.

Most hard cases include lock points but not actual locks. Adding a padlock to your case serves two purposes: it secures the rifle in transit (preventing accidental opening if the case is dropped, and discouraging casual theft from a parked car), and it satisfies any UKARA-compliance expectations around how RIFs should be stored at home. For relatively little money, a padlock or two is the small accessory that completes a proper storage system.

Three lock categories cover most needs. Combination padlocks are the convenient default — no keys to lose, set your own code, accessible by anyone you tell the combination to (useful for shared household storage). Keyed padlocks are the security-prioritised option — harder to bypass than combinations, but require physical key management. TSA-approved locks allow inspection by airport security without breaking the lock — relevant if you're flying internationally with airsoft. Cable locks (rather than fixed-shackle) allow longer reach for cases where the lock points aren't adjacent — useful on some larger hard cases and dual-rifle bags.

What to look for. Lock body diameter matters — case lock points are typically sized for 4-6mm shackles; check your case's specifications before ordering. Hardened steel shackle for theft resistance — cheaper padlocks use mild steel that can be cut with bolt cutters in seconds. Weatherproof or marine-grade finish for outdoor and damp storage — rust on a padlock is the most common cause of lock failure. Pair locks with appropriate hard cases. For storage during transport that involves international travel, look for TSA-approved variants specifically.

💡 Titan Forge tip: Buy two locks rather than one. Most hard cases have two lock points (one each side of the latch system) and using both makes the case significantly more secure than using one. The cost difference is £5-10 for the second lock; the security difference is meaningful. Some cases even need two locks to fully close the latch mechanism.
