Patches

Most modern airsoft tactical gear has velcro panels — on plate carriers, chest rigs, helmets, sleeves. Those panels exist to hold patches: small embroidered or PVC-rubber badges with hook-backed velcro that attaches to the loop-backed velcro on the gear. What started as a real-military identification system has become an airsoft community ritual — patches signal team affiliation, sense of humour, brand loyalty, country flag for international milsim events, blood type and allergy info for medics.

Patch categories. Morale patches are the largest and most varied — humorous, ironic, or aesthetic patches that signal the player's personality. "Just the tip", "Loose lips sink ships", "Tactical breacher", "Mall ninja" — every airsoft community has its in-jokes captured in patches. Country flags for UK, Union Jack, regional flags. Brand patches for Wolverine, GATE, OG Carbon, Titan Forge. Functional patches including blood type IDs, IR (infrared) patches for night ops, name tapes, rank insignia for milsim impressions.

Two construction types cover most patches. PVC rubber patches are the modern standard — durable, waterproof, holds detail well, the type most airsoft brands print. Embroidered patches are the traditional military style — fabric-on-fabric with stitched designs, lower contrast but more authentic for milsim impressions. Both attach via hook velcro on the back. For your loadout, patches go where there's velcro: front and back panels on plate carriers, helmet sides on FAST helmets, shoulder panels on combat shirts, and the velcro pads on chest rigs.
