- description
The lower face is the part of the head people underestimate. Goggles handle the eyes, a helmet handles the crown, and a BB at close range arrives at the mouth and chips a front tooth. A dental bill makes this the best value piece of kit on the page by a very wide margin.
Mesh rather than fabric is the choice that keeps it on your face all day. A neoprene mask traps every breath against your cheeks, soaks through within an hour and pushes warm damp air straight up into your goggles. Steel mesh lets the breath out, which means a lens that stays clear and a mask you do not keep pulling down.
It mounts on an adjustable strap rather than clipping to a helmet, so it works on its own, under a cap or with goggles over the top. Set the strap once with your eye protection already on, because the two have to share the same real estate round your ears.

Good to know before you buy
A mesh shield is not eye protection. It covers the lower face and nothing above it. You still need goggles or glasses over the top, and those are in our eye protection section.
Fit it with your goggles on. The strap and the goggle strap compete for the same place behind your ears, and a shield adjusted on a bare head will sit wrong the moment the lens goes on. Set them together once and leave it.
Mesh can let a fragment through. A BB that breaks up on the mesh can send pieces past it, which is a reason to keep your mouth shut on the push rather than a reason to go without. The rest of the lower face kit is in our face protection section.
Frequently asked questions
Will it fog my goggles?
Much less than a fabric mask, which is the main reason to buy mesh. Your breath goes out through the mesh instead of being pushed upward into the lens.
Can I wear it with a helmet?
Yes. It runs on its own strap rather than clipping to rails, so it goes under a helmet or a cap without needing adapters.
Does it stop a BB?
It stops a BB reaching your teeth and jaw, which is what it is for. The mesh can shed fragments from a BB that breaks on it, so it is protection rather than armour.
Is there a white or tan version?
This listing is the black skull pattern. Nuprol produce the lower shield in other finishes from time to time, so ask us what we can get in and we will tell you.
