Heretic Labs was born as Wolverine Airsoft's skunkworks speedsoft division — a deliberate decision to develop a line of HPA competition guns free from the constraints of the milsim aesthetic. The result is the Article Series: pistol-format HPA rifles that reject everything non-essential. No buffer tube. No stock in the traditional sense. No charging handle. No weight that doesn't contribute to performance. Each Article iteration refines the formula further.
Built on the MTW-Spec platform, every Article accepts the same engines, FCUs, and electronics as the full MTW range. The INFERNO Gen 2 or XTS engine sits in an identically aligned receiver — Intrinsic Alignment is present on every Article. The carbon fibre outer barrel serves the double function of structural front end and ultra-lightweight alternative to a conventional handguard.
Article I Ultramarine: Ultramarine blue accent finish on the Article I. Same specification as the Midnight Black — the colour choice is purely aesthetic for players who want their speedsoft setup to stand out.
The Article I is the original Heretic Labs speedsoft build — the distilled concept of an HPA competition gun. The charging handle, dust cover, and buffer tube of a standard MTW are removed. The front end is entirely genuine carbon fibre outer barrel — not a handguard wrapped around a steel barrel, but a structural carbon fibre tube that serves as both the outer barrel and the front rail mounting point. At 2.1lb total weight, the Article I is lighter than most pistols with comparable performance.
The CNC speed trigger is the Article I's most distinctive functional feature. A Delrin bearing in the trigger pivot delivers an exceptionally smooth pull with no gritty or stiff points in the trigger travel. Pre-travel, post-travel, and actuation point are all individually adjustable to match your preferred trigger feel. The upgraded control board adds a binary trigger option — fires on both trigger press and trigger release — for the maximum cycle rate in competition.
