The problem is specific: you fit an aftermarket handguard to your Wolverine MTW, torque the barrel nut to spec, and the Picatinny rail on top of the handguard doesn't line up with the receiver rail. It's rotated a few degrees — not enough to be structurally wrong, but enough that accessories mounted across the junction sit at an angle and anything long enough to span both rails won't sit flat. The barrel nut is tight. The handguard is secure. There is no adjustment.
Timing shims solve this by controlling where the barrel nut stops at full torque. A shim is a precision-thickness washer placed between the barrel nut shoulder and the handguard. It advances the rotational position of the handguard at the point where the nut reaches full torque — effectively setting the final angular position of the handguard relative to the receiver. Stack the right combination of 0.06mm and 0.10mm shims and you can hit alignment within a fraction of a degree.
Each pack contains five 0.06mm shims and five 0.10mm shims. Both sizes measure 25.4mm × 29.5mm. The two thicknesses allow fine-grained adjustment: use 0.10mm shims for larger corrections, 0.06mm shims for fine-tuning.
