Wolverine MTW AK-105: Review & Pre-Order Guide (2026)

The Wolverine MTW AK-105 is one of the most anticipated HPA releases of 2026, and for good reason. It takes everything that made the MTW platform the gold standard for HPA airsoft rifles — modularity, serviceability, and factory-grade build quality — and drops it into an authentic stamped steel AK receiver.

The result is an AK that performs like an MTW and feels like the real thing.

If you're considering pre-ordering one, this guide breaks down exactly what you're getting, what's new under the hood, and what UK buyers need to know before placing an order.

What is the MTW AK-105?

The MTW AK-105 is a purpose-built HPA airsoft rifle built from the ground up around Wolverine's new INFERNO XTS HPA engine. Unlike conversion kits or retrofitted AEGs, every component — from the trunnion to the buffer tube adapter — has been engineered specifically to work with the MTW engine architecture.

What makes it stand out is the combination of authentic external construction with MTW-spec internals. You get a stamped steel receiver set with the classic Wolverine logo stamp, an AK-105 front end, and a CNC-machined aluminium and steel trunnion that aligns intrinsically with the engine chassis (patent pending).

It looks and handles like a real AK-105 — but shoots with all the consistency, tunability, and reliability HPA players expect from the MTW line.

The INFERNO XTS engine — why it matters

The AK-105 is one of the first platforms to ship with Wolverine's new INFERNO XTS HPA engine. The XTS builds on the INFERNO Gen2 — widely considered the benchmark for poppet-style HPA engines — with meaningful improvements in three areas:

  • Forgiveness. The XTS is more tolerant of pressure fluctuations, dwell variations, and less-than-perfect tuning. That matters if you're new to HPA or switching between regulators.
  • Tunability. With the BLINC FCU and the BLINC app, you can adjust ROF, dwell, and burst behaviour in seconds. Pair a compatible Acetech Bluetooth chronograph and the auto-tune feature dials in your dwell automatically.
  • Raw potential. The XTS has more headroom for players who want to push velocity, cycle rate, or efficiency to the edge of what the platform can deliver.

In practical terms: the AK-105 will shoot accurately and consistently out of the box for casual players, while still offering plenty of depth for technicians who want to tune every parameter.

BLINC Bluetooth FCU — the smart brain

The BLINC FCU is what turns the AK-105 from "a great HPA rifle" into a smart platform. Everything is controlled through the free Wolverine Airsoft BLINC app on your phone:

  • Rate of fire, dwell time, and burst settings
  • Saved custom profiles for different scenarios
  • Auto-tune dwell (when paired with a compatible Acetech Bluetooth chronograph)
  • Wireless firmware updates
  • Programmable magazine capacity with simulated empty-mag detection via the functional charging handle and detector board (currently in BETA)
  • Ultra-low battery consumption

No screwdrivers on the field, no guessing at dwell values, no cracking the gun open to update firmware.

Compatibility — what parts work with it

Wolverine have designed the AK-105 to play nicely with the wider MTW ecosystem and with real AK parts. That's a big deal for buyers who already own MTW gear or want to customise externally.

MTW-Spec compatibility:

  • All MTW engines
  • MTW hop-up body
  • MTW inner barrels
  • WRAITH and QUAKE MTW stocks (requires stock adapter line)

LCT-Spec compatibility:

  • LCT handguards
  • LCT selector switches

Real steel parts:

  • AK grips (requires modification for air line routing)
  • Milspec buffer tubes
  • AR-style sling plates

Magazines: compatible with most AK AEG magazines.

This cross-compatibility is rare in HPA rifles. It means you can personalise the AK-105 without being locked into a single parts ecosystem.

Should you pre-order the MTW AK-105?

Wolverine have confirmed shipping is scheduled for May 2026, and Titan Forge Airsoft is holding the UK stock allocation. Here's how to think about whether a pre-order makes sense for you.

Pre-ordering is a good move if:

  • You want an HPA AK that performs like an MTW without doing a conversion
  • You already own MTW gear and want to share engines, hop-ups, and stocks
  • You value build quality and want authentic stamped steel construction rather than polymer
  • You want the newest INFERNO XTS engine as a platform for future tuning
  • You want to be one of the first UK players with the AK-105 — initial stock will be limited

It might not be the right fit if:

  • You're brand new to airsoft and haven't yet budgeted for a tank, regulator, and line (read our Complete HPA Setup Cost Guide first)
  • You want a traditional AK aesthetic with wood furniture — the AK-105 is the tactical/modern variant
  • You're on a tight budget — this is a premium platform and priced accordingly

How to pre-order through Titan Forge Airsoft

Pre-ordering is straightforward:

  1. Head to the MTW AK-105 product page
  2. Select your firmware preference (Standard or Semi-Only)

Frequently asked questions

Do I need UKARA to buy the MTW AK-105?

Yes — like all HPA rifles, the MTW AK-105 is a Realistic Imitation Firearm (RIF). You need a valid UKARA defence or another recognised defence to purchase. We're a UKARA registered retailer.

What's the difference between Standard and Semi-Only firmware?

Standard firmware gives you full access to semi-automatic, burst, and full-automatic fire modes, all configurable through the BLINC app. Semi-Only firmware is locked to semi-automatic for players at sites or events that restrict full-auto. Both can be flashed between via wireless firmware update if you change your mind later.

Can I use my existing MTW parts on the AK-105?

Yes — that's one of the platform's biggest strengths. MTW engines, hop-up bodies, inner barrels, and WRAITH/QUAKE stocks (with an adapter line) all work with the AK-105. If you already own an MTW M4, your existing parts inventory carries over.

Will you install upgrades before dispatch?

Yes. We offer installation, PSI tuning, and full servicing at our workshop at Skirmish Wycombe Airsoft. If you'd like your AK-105 set up with specific dwell, PSI, or FCU profile before it ships to you, contact us when placing your pre-order. See our HPA Tech Service page for details.

Is the AK-105 compatible with real AK magazines?

It's compatible with most AK AEG magazines. Real steel AK magazines are not designed to feed airsoft BBs and won't function in the platform.
