Acetech AuraMist Tracer Unit - Water Mist, Flame LED & Tracer

Smoking tracer units have always come with a catch. The oil that makes the smoke costs money to replace, it leaves a sticky residue that builds up inside the unit and on your flash hider, and cleaning it out is a job nobody enjoys. The AuraMist removes all of that by vaporising ordinary water instead.

The practical difference is significant. Refills cost nothing, there is no oily film collecting on the muzzle or the inside of the unit, and there is no smell. Acetech have also built in an automatic dry mode - after use a small internal fan runs for around thirty seconds to clear residual moisture, which is what stops water-based systems corroding themselves over a season.

It does three jobs at once. It illuminates green or red tracer BBs, fires a simulated flame LED at the muzzle, and emits the water mist - so a burst at dusk produces glowing rounds, a flash of flame and a trail of vapour together. There is also a standalone mist mode that runs for five to ten minutes without shooting, which is useful for photography or simply for effect in the safe zone.

Practicalities are sensible. It threads 14mm CCW so it fits most rifles and pistols, charges over USB-C in about two and a half hours, and gives up to 20,000 flashes per charge with a sleep mode that shuts it down after five minutes idle. The water tank holds 4.2ml and refills through a needle bottle at the front of the unit rather than requiring a strip-down, and the whole thing weighs 65 grams.

One curiosity worth knowing: it has an aroma mode that works with diluted essential oils, so the mist can carry a scent if you want it to.

Good to know before you buy

Use pure water only - Acetech are specific about that, and tap water with heavy mineral content may leave deposits over time. It will not work with water gel balls. Worth checking your site rules before you take it out: some UK sites have restrictions on smoke and vapour devices, and while a water-based unit avoids the objections to oil smoke, the rules still apply. It also needs tracer BBs to do the tracer part - the mist and flame work with any 6mm ammunition.

Frequently asked questions

Does it really run on just water?
Yes. It vaporises pure water to create the mist, so refills cost nothing and there is no oily residue to clean out. That is the whole point of the design.

How is it different from an oil-based smoking tracer?
Oil systems leave a sticky film that builds up inside the unit and on the muzzle, cost money to refill, and need cleaning. The AuraMist has none of those problems, and it produces no smell and no heat.

What is dry mode?
After you have finished, an internal fan runs for around thirty seconds to clear remaining moisture out of the unit. It is what stops a water-based system corroding internally over time.

Do I need tracer BBs?
For the tracer function, yes - it works with green or red tracer BBs. The mist and flame LED effects work with any standard 6mm BB.

Will my site allow it?
Most should, since it produces water vapour rather than pyrotechnic or oil smoke - but some sites restrict smoke and vapour devices regardless. Check before you travel.

How long does a charge last?
Up to 20,000 flashes, charged over USB-C in about two and a half hours. A sleep mode shuts it down after five minutes idle so it does not drain in your bag.

Can I put anything other than water in it?
Only diluted essential oils, for the aroma mode. Do not use smoke oil or any other fluid - it is designed around water and will not behave correctly with anything thicker.
