Balystik ULTRALIGHT Piston - steel where the load is, light everywhere else.

A piston has two competing jobs. It has to survive the sector gear pulling on its teeth, which wants steel, and it has to accelerate and stop on every cycle, which wants to be as light as possible. Get the balance wrong in either direction and you either strip teeth or lose rate of fire.

The ULTRALIGHT puts steel teeth on a lightweight body, so the fourteen teeth that take the load are hard-wearing while the mass being thrown back and forth stays low. Fourteen teeth is the full-tooth configuration - the right choice for a standard or moderately upgraded gearbox where reliability matters more than chasing extreme rate of fire.

It is an inexpensive part that fails expensively when it goes, which makes it a sensible one to replace during any gearbox service rather than waiting.

Good to know before you buy

Full-tooth 14 configuration, so it suits standard and moderately upgraded builds rather than short-stroked speed setups. Fitting means opening the gearbox - worth doing alongside a shim check and a fresh set of O-rings while you are in there.

Frequently asked questions

Why steel teeth on a light body?
The teeth take the load from the sector gear and need to be hard. The rest of the piston is dead weight being accelerated on every cycle, so lighter is better. This combines both.

Is 14 teeth right for me?
It is the full-tooth configuration and suits standard and moderately upgraded gearboxes. Short-stroking for very high rate of fire uses fewer teeth - ask us if that is your plan.

Which gearboxes does it fit?
V2 and V3, which covers most M4 and AK-pattern AEGs.

Should I replace the piston head too?
If the existing one is worn, yes - they work as a pair and it is a small extra cost while the gearbox is open.
