Not every game wants a war belt round it. For competition shooting, for a light skirmish load, or simply for anyone who would rather not have MOLLE webbing at their waist, the Bare Bones does the structural job of a rigid belt and nothing else. The webbing is resin-treated, which is what stops it folding over on itself the moment a holster is hung on it.
The buckle is the part worth understanding. A Fidlock closes magnetically: bring the two halves near each other and they pull themselves together and seat. It opens by tilting a stainless steel flap, and the amount of force that takes rises with the load the belt is carrying. In other words, the fuller the belt, the harder it is to knock open by accident.
In black it doubles as something you can wear off-site without looking like you are still on one. That is a small thing, but it is the reason a lot of people pick this colour over the others in the range.

Frequently asked questions
How much adjustment is there? About 2″ over the nominal size. That is materially less than the 6″ on the 2″ MOLLE belts, so if you play in heavy winter layers, size up rather than relying on the adjustment.
Can the magnetic buckle pop open on its own? It is designed not to. The flap has to be tilted deliberately, and the resistance increases as the belt gets heavier.
Is it strong enough for a full loadout? For a competition or light skirmish load, comfortably. For a holster, dump pouch and four magazines, the 2″ MOLLE belt is the better platform.
