The stockless MP5K, and the only gun in the range on a V3 gearbox. Everything behind the grip has gone, which is what makes it so easy to work with indoors — and it means the battery and the gearbox both sit in the body rather than a stock.

The K is the MP5 cut down to its shortest useful form: no stock, a stubby barrel and a vertical foregrip where the handguard would be. In a corridor or a stairwell that matters more than any internal upgrade, because the gun simply goes where a full-length one will not.

It is also the odd one out mechanically. The rest of this range runs a Version 2 gearbox; the MP5K uses a Version 3 with a Kestrel V3 trigger unit, so spares and upgrades come off a different shelf. The quick-change spring is reached by pulling two pins and taking off the rear section with the sling loop, so the gearbox never has to leave the body.

Inside it is built to the same standard as its longer siblings — 8mm steel ball bearings, a full-steel-toothed piston, 13:1 CNC short-stroke gears and a long-type high-torque motor on neodymium magnets.

Good to know

With no stock, the battery goes inside the body. That keeps the outside clean but limits you to packs that physically fit, so check dimensions rather than just voltage before ordering.

A Version 3 gearbox is not a Version 2. Nozzles, pistons and shells bought for the full-size MP5s in this range will not fit, and neither will most MP5 gearbox parts you already own.

Frequently asked questions

Why is this one a V3 gearbox? The MP5K has no stock, so CYMA use a Version 3 shell and a Kestrel V3 trigger unit. It is the only gun in this range that does.

Will MP5 parts from the other guns fit? Mostly not. The gearbox version differs, so internals bought for a Version 2 MP5 are the wrong parts.

How many rounds do the magazines hold? 65 each, and two come in the box. Read the magazine warning below before buying spares.

Where does the battery go? Inside the body, on a T-connector. CYMA specify 7.4V or 11.1V LiPo packs.

The 130-round mid-caps that fit the full-size MP5s in this range are a different magazine. Our supplier lists standard CYMA MP5 mid-caps as compatible accessories, but owners of this model report that standard MP5 mid-caps do not seat correctly in it. The two sources disagree, and we have not been able to resolve it, so buy one spare and prove it fits before committing to a set.
