The Battle of Iwo Jima was one of the most intense engagements of the Pacific campaign — 36 days of fighting for a volcanic island eight square miles in size, remembered most indelibly by Joe Rosenthal's photograph of six Marines raising the Stars and Stripes on Mount Suribachi. The GPM1911 was the sidearm in the holsters of those men, and the sidearm of every American serviceman who fought on that island.
G&G's Iwo Jima Limited Version honours that history with the kind of detail that distinguishes a genuine commemorative piece from a cosmetic variation. The right grip panel carries the words of Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz — "Uncommon valor was a common virtue" — laser engraved into real wood. The left grip panel carries "Iwo Jima". The slide is laser engraved with the battle dates "Feb 19 – Mar 26, 1945" and the words "75th Anniversary" on the opposite side. The Rosenthal photograph adorns the lid of the presentation case.
The hardwood presentation case with red velvet trim and purpose-cut recesses holds the pistol and dummy rounds securely. As a display piece it is complete. As a GBB pistol it is the full GPM1911 platform — Whirl Cylinder Technology, adjustable hop-up, full metal construction, gas blowback with genuine recoil impulse.
