A cast shell is the quiet limit on a heavily tuned AEG. It flexes where it should not, the critical cross-sections are thinner than you would like, and the first thing a strong spring does is start opening it up around the cylinder window. Everything downstream of that — shimming, angle of engagement, air seal — is being set against a shell that moves.
GATE machine this one in their own factory from 7075 T6, quoting a tensile strength of 570 MPa, and put the metal back where a cast shell is thin. The result is a shell that will take extreme spring rates without complaint, which is the reason to buy one; everything else it does is about making the build easier.
And it does plenty. There is an inspection window for setting pre-cocking by hand and looking at the piston, another for bevel-to-pinion mesh, and a window per gear for shimming, so the whole tedious part of a build becomes something you can see rather than something you infer. Spring changes run off a hex key or a flat blade. The anti-reversal latch releases easily, the angle of engagement can be eyeballed, and the wiring no longer runs anywhere the pinion can chew it.
Compatibility is broad: most standard V2 internals, most bodies, VFC dual selectors, the Specna Arms ESA-2 quick spring change system, and it is ready for 8 mm bearings. GATE also offer a lifetime warranty on it to anyone running one of their control units, and the kit ships with a scratch card worth one firmware level-up on a TITAN or ASTER.

Good to know before you buy
It is a shell, not a gearbox. No gears, no piston, no cylinder, no trigger. What arrives is the housing, the screws and a spring guide, and everything else comes out of your old gearbox or off the shelf — see gearbox parts.
The windows are the real selling point. Being able to see a gear while you shim it turns the worst part of a build into a short one. If you build guns for other people, that is worth more than the alloy.
The two colours are not the same price. GATE charge differently for the titanium and silver finishes and we have followed that, so the dropdown moves the price. Nothing else between them changes.
Claim the firmware upgrade. The scratch card in the box is worth a level-up on a TITAN or ASTER, and it is the kind of thing that sits in a drawer unredeemed. Do it the same evening you open the box.
Frequently asked questions
Does it come with gears and a piston?
No. It is the shell, a set of screws and a spring guide. Plan on reusing your internals or buying them separately.
Why is the titanium one dearer than the silver?
Because GATE price it that way, and we price off what the supplier charges rather than averaging the two. The shells are otherwise identical.
Will my existing internals drop in?
GATE state compatibility with most standard V2 parts and most bodies, including VFC dual selectors. If you are running something unusual, ask before ordering.
Do I need a GATE control unit to use it?
No, it works as a V2 shell on its own. The lifetime warranty GATE offer is tied to being a user of their control units, and the free firmware level-up is only useful if you have one.
What does the shell weigh?
No figure is published anywhere. The manufacturer does not publish that, ask us — a bare shell can go on the scales before you order.
