A retrofit, not a replacement engine. The V31 kit swaps the accuracy-critical parts inside a PTX you already own — the nozzle, its spring and the pieces that hold the seal, hop-up chamber and inner barrel square to each other. The PULSAR S2 engine stays where it is.

A PTX shoots as well as its nozzle lets it. The nozzle has to seal against the bucking on every cycle, return to the same place every time, and leave the inner barrel sitting straight while it does it. Get any of those three slightly wrong and the pistol still chronos fine and still groups badly, which is the frustrating bit — nothing feels broken.

V31 attacks all three at once. The nozzle is machined from POM rather than the earlier material and arrives assembled with its two O-rings already fitted. A dedicated spring sets the return. Then three small stabilising parts — an O-ring positioning stabiliser, a hop-up chamber spacer and an inner-barrel stabiliser — take the slack out of the stack behind the barrel so the geometry stops moving between shots.

GATE developed it as the successor to their V22 upgrade system, and the numbers below are theirs, from their own range work at 40 metres. They are averages across tested cohorts rather than a promise about your pistol, and we have published them as GATE measured them.

Worth being clear about what this is not: it is a small bag of precision parts, not a tune-up you drop in. Fitting means opening the rear of the engine and the hop-up and barrel assembly, and the result depends on how carefully it goes back together.

Specifications

Specification Detail
Fits GATE PTX pistols running the PULSAR S2 engine
Generations covered PTX 1.0 and PTX V22 — GATE publish a separate procedure for each
Nozzle Assembled V31 nozzle in POM, with two 11 × 1 mm O-rings fitted at the factory
Also in the kit Nozzle spring, O-ring positioning stabiliser, 7 × 1.5 mm O-ring, POM hop-up chamber spacer, POM inner-barrel stabiliser
Supersedes The earlier V22 upgrade system — a different nozzle material and a revised component layout, not a running change
Engine required No. The kit retrofits into the PULSAR S2 you already own
Bucking GATE recommend Maple Leaf AUTOBOT 60°, rubber version — explicitly not the silicone
Manufacturer part code PTX-KITv3

What GATE measured at 40 metres

Metric V22 V31 Change
Mean SCORE 31.6 67.2 +112.7%
Mean MOA 116.4 53.6 53.9% tighter
Series meeting GATE acceptance criteria 32.3% 96.2% +63.9 points
Hits inside 26 × 34 cm 20.0% 67.8% +47.9 points
Radius containing half the hits 32.4 cm 12.4 cm 61.8% smaller
Median series-centre radius 15.1 cm 6.1 cm 59.3% smaller

GATE’s best recorded individual 50-shot series reached MOA 25.32 and SCORE 87. Their own caveat applies and we will repeat it: these are averages and records from controlled testing, and real performance follows BBs, hop adjustment, pressure, valve timing, barrel condition, lubrication and assembly quality.

Good to know before you buy

It is a parts kit, not a bolt-on. You need access to the rear section of the PULSAR S2 and to the hop-up and inner-barrel assembly. An experienced user or a technician with the official instructions will be fine; a first strip-down on a competition pistol the night before a game is a poor plan. We run a bench service if you would rather not — details on our HPA tech service page.

Retune Dp afterwards, from the bottom up. The kit changes how the nozzle seals and returns, so the dwell setting that suited the old parts will not be the right one. GATE ask for the lowest Dp that still cycles reliably, and the V31 instructions give the method.

The bucking is part of the result. GATE got their figures with a Maple Leaf AUTOBOT 60° in the rubber compound and say so specifically — the silicone version is a different material with different behaviour. Our hop rubber section is the place to look.

Two PTX generations, two procedures. The method and the parts you reuse from the original pistol differ between PTX 1.0 and PTX V22, so work from the version of the manual that matches your pistol rather than the first one you find.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a new PULSAR S2 engine as well?
No. That is the point of it. The kit replaces the nozzle, the spring and the stabilising parts inside the engine and hop-up you already have.

Is this the same thing as the V22 kit?
No. V31 uses a POM nozzle and a reworked component arrangement that GATE developed after V22. If you fitted the older kit, this is the step past it rather than a spare for it.

Will my pistol hit the figures in that table?
Treat them as what GATE’s test pistols averaged, not as a specification. Your BBs, hop setting, pressure, barrel condition and the care taken on reassembly all move the result.

Can I fit it myself?
If you have had the engine apart before and you follow GATE’s manual, yes. It wants clean hands, correct lubrication and a nozzle that moves freely when you are done. If that does not sound like a pleasant evening, send it to us.

Which hop rubber should I run with it?
The Maple Leaf AUTOBOT 60° in rubber, which is what GATE specify for the published results. Not the silicone version of the same bucking.

Does it change the muzzle energy?
GATE do not publish a velocity figure for the kit — the manufacturer does not publish that, ask us and we will tell you what we see on the bench here. It is sold as a grouping upgrade, not a power one, and you should chrono after fitting either way.

⚠ Check the nozzle moves freely before you close it up. A nozzle that binds, or an O-ring pinched on reassembly, will cost you more than the kit gains and can leave the engine cycling badly. If it does not feel free in the hand, take it back apart rather than pressurising it.
💡 Titan Forge Airsoft tip: Fit the kit and the recommended bucking in the same sitting, then chrono and re-zero before you judge it. Changing two things at once sounds like bad practice, but GATE’s figures come from that combination, and swapping the bucking later means stripping the hop-up a second time. The rest of the platform is in our GATE PTX section.
