- description
Faux wood divides people. It suits a period loadout and looks right on a Cold War build, but on a modern kit it can sit oddly against black furniture and nylon webbing. This version solves that by simply not having it, and nothing else about the rifle changes.
AK platforms have historically been the awkward ones in the gas blowback world, because the rotating bolt costs gas efficiency compared with an AR. KWA's answer was a redesigned bolt assembly, and the result pushes the rate of fire past 14 rounds per second on green gas while keeping shot-to-shot consistency — which is what makes this one usable on a site rather than just interesting on a bench.
The magazine deserves a mention of its own. It holds 40 rounds and has a blank-fire setting, which sounds like a novelty until you use it for dry practice and realise how much cheaper it is than feeding the gun BBs to learn the controls.

Good to know
It folds to 500mm, which is short enough to matter. A side-folding stock on a gun this size is the difference between a rifle bag and a holdall, and it makes the AKS-74U one of the easier full-power gas guns to transport.
Optics mount on the AK side rail rather than a top rail, so you need a side-rail mount rather than a Picatinny one. Anything built for the AK dovetail will sit on it.
Frequently asked questions
What is different from the faux wood version? The handguard, and nothing else. Both are the same rifle with the same internals, and we price them the same.
Is it genuinely full automatic? Yes, and reliably so. The Force Velocity engine is the reason — AK gas guns are usually the weak point of the format and this one is not.
What does the blank-fire magazine setting do? It lets the gun cycle without feeding BBs, so you can practise handling and reloads without using ammunition.
How do I mount a sight? Through the AK side rail. You will need a side-rail mount; a Picatinny-only optic will not attach directly.
