The AKS-74U — known in the West as the "Krinkov" — is the shortened paratrooper variant of the AK-74, designed in the early 1980s for vehicle crews and special forces. Its compact length and pistol-caliber-friendly stock made it a favourite of GRU operators in Afghanistan, and decades later it remains one of the most recognisable silhouettes in the AK family. KWA's airsoft replica captures the original's combat-ready proportions: 500mm folded, 745mm extended, and a stamped steel upper receiver that gives the rifle the heft and feel of the real thing rather than the lighter-than-air feel of polymer-bodied AK clones.
What separates this from other AK GBBRs on the market is KWA's Force Velocity engine. AK platforms have historically been the difficult child of the GBBR family — gas efficiency suffers compared to AR-pattern guns because of the rotating-bolt system. KWA addressed that with a redesigned bolt assembly that pushes ROF up to 14+ rounds per second on green gas while maintaining shot-to-shot consistency. The 40-round magazine has a built-in blank-fire mode for safe training, which sounds gimmicky until you've used it for dry-fire practice and realised how useful it is. The faux wood handguard isn't real wood, but it's high-impact polymer moulded with a wood texture that holds up to skirmish abuse better than anything organic would.
