Cut an AK-74 down to carbine length, hinge the stock sideways and you get the AKS-74U. It was built for crews who needed a rifle that would fit in a hatch, and the stubby barrel with its oversized muzzle device has been shorthand for Eastern Bloc kit ever since. Nothing else in the AK family looks like it.
The wood effect is what sells the silhouette. Plain black furniture turns any AK into a generic modern build; the warm-toned handguard and grip put this one somewhere specific, which is exactly what you want if the loadout around it is Cold War rather than contemporary. It is also the version most people picture when they picture a Krinkov.
Gas AKs have a reputation and it is not a flattering one. A rotating bolt draws more gas than an AR carrier does, so plenty of them run out of puff before the magazine is empty. KWA's Force Velocity engine is the answer to that: better than 14 rounds a second on green gas, and still doing it on the last few rounds rather than just the first few.

Good to know
The receiver is stamped steel, so the gun weighs what an AK ought to weigh. At 2.92kg it is heavier than most polymer-bodied AK replicas, and that mass is a large part of why the recoil impulse feels the way it does.
Sights and optics go on the AK side rail, not a top rail. Any mount cut for the AK dovetail will fit; a Picatinny-only red dot will need an adapter before it goes anywhere near this rifle.
Frequently asked questions
Is the furniture real wood? No. It is a wood-effect finish rather than timber, which is the sensible choice for something that gets dropped on gravel most weekends.
How does it compare with the black handguard version? Only the furniture differs. Same receiver, same engine, same internals, and we hold both at the same price.
Will it run full auto reliably? Yes. That is the whole point of the Force Velocity engine, and it is why this platform is worth considering where other gas AKs are not.
What is the blank-fire setting for? The magazine can cycle the action without feeding BBs, so you can learn the controls and practise reloads without burning through ammunition.
