Matrix "Drill" AAP-01 Conversion Kit, Matrix Blue. An external polymer kit that makes an Action Army AAP-01 look like a cordless power drill. Kit and instructions only — no pistol, and nothing internal is changed.

This is a joke executed properly, which is the only way a joke like this works. The kit clips around an AAP-01 and turns the outline of a pistol into the outline of a power tool: body, grip, chuck, the lot, in a blue that is clearly meant to be recognised from across a site. On a speedsoft field it is the thing people photograph. In a CQB building it is the thing that makes somebody hesitate for exactly as long as you need.

Nothing functional is touched. It is an external shell, so the gas system, hop unit, nozzle and trigger group are all left as they were, and the gun shoots exactly as it did before the kit went on. Installation is a quick job by design and entirely reversible, which matters: this is a thing you put on for a game and take off again, not a permanent rebuild.

Matrix make it, and it comes off the same design and factory as their MAK and MIL conversions with its own nameplates, so the tooling behind it is the same as the kits those builds use rather than a one-off novelty run. Polymer throughout, 250mm long and 680g, and the box contains the kit and the instructions.

The compatibility line is worth reading carefully. Matrix state it for the Action Army AAP-01 Assassin. That is the standard pistol. Nothing is published about the shorter AAP-01C, so we are not going to tell you it fits one — if that is what you have, check with us first and we will find out before you commit.

Good to know

Do I get a pistol with this? No. This is the kit on its own. You fit it to an AAP-01 you already own.

Does it change how the gun shoots? Not at all. Everything internal stays where it was, so your velocity and your hop are whatever you had them set to.

Will it fit an AAP-01C? Matrix only publish fitment for the standard AAP-01 Assassin. Ask us rather than assuming — we would rather check than have you return it.

Can I take it off again? Yes. It is external and reversible, which is rather the point of a kit like this.

Will a site let me use it? Most will, but a few are wary of anything that disguises what a thing is. Worth a quick word with the marshals when you book in.

⚠ It still is what it is: a conversion kit does not change the law or a venue's rules. Carry and transport it as you would the pistol underneath it, and do not take it anywhere in public where you would not take the gun itself.
