Every other HPA engine we sell has a fire control unit, a battery and a loom of wires. They are excellent, and they are also the parts most likely to stop you playing — a flat micro-pack, a chafed wire, water where it should not be. The XX-Mod deletes all three by being entirely mechanical: the trigger drives the engine directly, and there is nothing electrical inside it at all.
The part that surprises people is that this costs you nothing in capability. Mechanical engines were semi-only for years, because holding a solenoid open reliably was the electronics’ job. The XX-Mod gives you semi and full auto with no FCU, which is the whole reason the platform exists.
The other consequence is one no electronic engine can match. With zero electronics, the XX-Mod is completely waterproof — MechLabs state it runs in wet weather and continues to function fully submerged. For anyone who plays a British winter, that is not marketing.
It is a drop-in replacement for a standard V2 AEG gearbox, machined from CNC-milled Series 6 aluminium as modular blocks that lock together on a precision interface, so sections can be swapped for different setups. A 3-axis XYZ alignment system lets you micro-adjust the fit to your particular receiver — which is what makes a mechanical engine behave consistently across guns that are never quite identical.
Mechanical does not mean fixed, either. The Air Bender tunes the internal air-cycle rate, giving direct control over rate of fire and air consumption per shot. The magnetic return trigger adjusts for travel and sensitivity. And the XX-Mold bolt’s adjustable nozzle lets you dial the fit into your hop chamber rather than accepting whatever length it came with.
MechLabs advise small incremental adjustments rather than jumping to extremes — the tuning range is wide enough that an aggressive setting can cause irregular cycling.

Good to know before you buy
An engine, not a complete gun — you will need a tank, regulator and line, but notably no battery and no charger. It replaces the internals of a V2 gearbox, so fitting is a full strip.
Sustained full auto asks a lot of a regulator. If full auto is why you want it, talk to us about air flow before you order — a low-flow regulator can struggle to keep an engine fed under load.
Tune in small steps: MechLabs specifically warn that extreme Air Bender settings can cause irregular cycling.
Frequently asked questions
Does it really do full auto?
Yes, semi and full auto, with no fire control unit anywhere in it. That is unusual for a mechanical engine and it is the main reason to look at this platform.
Is it actually waterproof?
Yes, and it follows directly from having no electronics. MechLabs state it operates in wet weather and continues to function fully submerged. No electronic HPA engine can claim that.
If it is mechanical, can I still tune it?
A great deal. The Air Bender sets air-cycle rate and therefore rate of fire and air consumption, the magnetic trigger adjusts travel and sensitivity, and the bolt nozzle adjusts to suit your hop chamber.
How does it compare to a Wolverine INFERNO or GATE PULSAR?
Those give you programmable fire modes, binary triggers and app tuning, and need a battery and an FCU to do it. The XX-Mod trades all of that for mechanical simplicity, waterproofing and nothing electrical to fail — while still giving you semi and full auto.
Will it fit my gun?
It drops into a standard V2 AEG gearbox, and the 3-axis alignment exists specifically to absorb variation between receivers. Send us your make and model and we will confirm.
Do the colours cost different amounts?
No. All anodised finishes are the same price.
Can you fit and tune it for me?
Yes. We are an authorised MechLabs tech centre, so installation, tuning and any later servicing happen here rather than being sent away.
