A D-ring does a different job to a snap clip. It stays open and fixed, so anything with a carabiner clips straight to it and a chem light hangs from it without needing a gate opened. That makes it the better choice for kit you attach and detach constantly, and for anything you want visible.
The two lengths are not cosmetic. Short is cut for a shooter belt and uses only the bottom row of MOLLE, keeping the T-piece away from your body so the hanger can sit behind a pouch. Long is cut for conventional 25mm MOLLE, which is what you find on body armour and daysacks — on those, the short version will not reach.
Everything load-bearing is ITW: the T-piece that holds it into the webbing and the D-ring itself. The webbing between them is mil-standard.

Frequently asked questions
Short or long? Short for a shooter belt, long for a plate carrier or daysack with 25mm MOLLE. If you are unsure, measure the webbing spacing on whatever you are mounting it to.
Is there an H&K clip option on this one? No. The H&K clip is a separate product — the MOLLE Hanger. This listing is the D-ring only.
Will a standard carabiner fit the ring? Yes, a normal accessory carabiner clips straight on. It is not a climbing-rated ring and should not be load-bearing for a person.
