AK pattern guns are awkward about batteries. The space is long and narrow rather than short and fat, and a crane pack or a chunky stick simply will not go. Nuprol list this configuration as AK slim stick for exactly that reason: 18 by 18 millimetres in section, and 203 millimetres end to end.
Nickel chemistry suits the application too. Many AK AEGs are older designs or budget builds running original internals, and 8.4v is what they were specified for. There is nothing to balance, nothing to store at a particular voltage, and no bag needed at charge time.
It arrives on small Tamiya, which is still the standard plug on most unmodified AK pattern guns, so for a lot of owners it is genuinely plug and play.

Good to know before you buy
Measure the length, not just the width. 203mm is long. It is designed to run the length of a handguard, so a gun with a shorter channel or an obstruction partway along will not take it however slim it is.

Will it fit guns other than AKs?
Anywhere with a long slim channel, yes — some full-length stocks and a few support weapons take this shape. The name describes the format rather than an exclusive fitment, so measure before you decide.
How does it compare to the folding version?
Electrically identical: 1600mAh, 8.4v, 13.44Wh. Only the physical arrangement differs. This one is a single 203mm stick; the other folds into two halves.
Does it need a special charger?
No. Any NiMH charger will do it, though a smart charger that terminates on voltage rather than a timer will give you more charge cycles out of the pack.
Is 8.4v enough for an AK?
It is what most AK pattern AEGs are built around, so yes. If you want more rate of fire you would be looking at lithium, and at that point the gearbox internals are worth a look too.
