The Spearhead's handguard solves a specific problem: full quad rails are useful for mounting kit but uncomfortable to grip with a modern C-clamp technique. Picatinny rail surfaces bite into the support hand under pressure. The Spearhead keeps the top and bottom rails for sights, lights, lasers and foregrips, while smoothing the side sections into flat surfaces you can actually wrap a hand around without rail covers.
C-clamp grip technique — support hand wrapped high on the handguard, thumb pointing forward — has become the dominant shooting style at most UK sites because it gives the most rifle control during fast transitions. A handguard that's comfortable in that grip without accessory rail covers is genuinely useful, particularly for players who don't want to add rail covers to a rifle they just bought.
Internally the Spearhead is identical to the rest of the Vanguard family: reinforced V2 gearbox, 18:1 steel gears, 8mm ball bearings, rotary hop, M90 quick-change spring, Vortex programmable ETU, Deans wiring. The choice between Spearhead, Pathfinder, Ranger and the Sentry/Sentinel pair is purely about external configuration — every Vanguard runs the same internals.
