The Tokyo Marui MP7 is widely regarded as the best MP7 platform in airsoft — exceptional build quality, reliable gas operation, and a genuinely compact profile that makes it popular for speedsoft and CQB players who want maximum mobility. Tapp Airsoft's M4 Competition Adapter takes this foundation and removes the one major limitation of any GBB platform: gas dependency.
This is a specifically competition-oriented design. The flared magwell is the centrepiece: it's wider at the opening than a standard magwell, guiding the M4 magazine in during fast reloads even with imprecise hand placement. In a competition or fast-paced CQB context, the difference between a flared magwell and a tight-tolerance standard magwell is measured in fractions of a second — but those fractions of a second compound over a day of play. Combined with the M4 magazine format (higher capacity, widely available, easy to prepare), the reload experience on an MP7 with this adapter approaches the efficiency of a full-size M4.
Tapp's engineering approach centres on a single-stack BB flow path from the air source to the feed lip. The BB travels in a single, straight line without double-stacking or requiring any insert that could fail. There is no physical connection between the M4 magazine and the adapter body (beyond the magazine seating in the magwell), which eliminates a whole category of O-ring and seal failures that affect adapters where the magazine connects directly to the adapter's air system.
The material is SLS (Selective Laser Sintered) Nylon PA12 — a 3D printing process that produces components with tighter tolerances and better mechanical properties than FDM-printed nylon, and a material profile that's lightweight (under 5 ounces / ~140g including adapter body) while being durable enough for sustained competitive use. This is the same process Tapp uses across their full adapter range. Designed and built in the USA.
Operating pressure range is 100–125psi. The Gen 2 Competition Adapter adds the flared magwell to the standard M4 adapter architecture — if you don't need the flared magwell for competition speed reloads, the standard M4 adapter (when available) is the equivalent without the competition magwell.
Why choose the Competition (Gen 2) over a standard M4 adapter?
| Feature | Standard M4 Adapter | M4 Competition (Gen 2) (this) |
|---|---|---|
| Magwell | Standard tolerance | Flared — faster mag insertion under pressure |
| Reload speed | Standard | Competition-optimised |
| Target use | Field and skirmish | Competition and high-tempo CQB |
