In September 2023, after a two-year evaluation process called Project Hunter, the British Ministry of Defence selected the Knight's Armament Company KS-1 as the L403A1 — the new Alternative Individual Weapon for the Army Special Operations Brigade and Royal Marines Commandos. The rifle beat the HK416A5, the SIG MCX-Virtus, the Daniel Defense MK18 and the Glock GR-115 to take the contract. Rifles started arriving with frontline units through 2024 and 2025. For UK milsim and impression players, this is the rifle British Army Ranger Regiment and Royal Marines players need.
VFC's GBBR replica is based on the actual KAC KS-1 platform — the latest iteration of the SR-16 family. The handguard is the KAC URX-style M-LOK that runs nearly the full length of the barrel, the lower receiver carries the full Knight's Armament Stoner Rifle markings, and the controls are properly ambidextrous in the same way the real rifle is — selector, magazine release, and bolt catch all mirrored. Full-metal construction throughout with reinforced polymer furniture, the kind of build quality VFC is known for at this price point.
Mechanically it runs VFC's well-proven GBBR system with realistic bolt cycling and felt recoil through the buffer tube. Adjustable hop-up handles BB weights through the standard skirmish range. Chronographs around 330 FPS with 0.20g out of the box — UK site-legal for 1J limits. The 330mm precision inner barrel pairs cleanly with VFC's hop unit for accuracy that holds up at the kind of distances modern GBBR shooters care about. Takes any VFC GBBR M4 magazine — your existing VFC mag collection drops straight in without modification.
Two things to plan for. First, this is a current-service British military rifle replica — players doing impression work will want the Vortex 1-10 LPVO, Aimpoint ACRO P-2 and KAC QDC suppressor that complete the real AIW system. The bare rifle is the starting point of a kit, not the whole loadout. Second, GBBRs are not direct AEG replacements — see the considerations note below before committing to one as a primary rifle if you skirmish through winter.
