If you own a VFC GBBR — M4, HK416, VR16, SR-16, or one of the BCM-licensed variants — the VMAG is the official VFC spare mag for it. The V3 generation is the current production version, replacing the older M4G30 mags that VFC shipped through 2021. The visible difference is the enlarged rear opening on the upper cover; the functional difference is that this opening lets the bolt catch engage cleanly on the last round, which earlier mags struggled with under sustained fire.
The internal valve assembly has also been redesigned for this generation. The result is more consistent gas release per shot, which translates directly to consistent muzzle velocity across the magazine's 30 rounds rather than the typical drop-off that some GBBR mags show toward the end of a magazine on a cold morning. Practical impact: the rifle still chronos within site limits on shot 28 the same as it did on shot 1.
The switchable dry-fire function is the other headline feature. A small red lever on the magazine body switches between two modes: standard (bolt locks back when the magazine empties, mimicking real-steel behaviour and triggering reload muscle memory) and dry-fire (bolt continues to cycle on empty, useful for force-on-force training drills or for breaking in a new rifle without burning through a full mag every cycle). Switching modes takes a second and requires no tools.
Construction is the standard VFC mix of polymer body with metal reinforcement at the feed lips and gas valve. Approximately 350g loaded. Holds 30 rounds of 6mm BB. Compatible with any VFC GBBR using the M4-style mag well — that covers the whole VFC AR family back to the original M4 GBBR and forward through the current HK416 series. Verify magazine fit against your specific lower receiver if you're running a heavily modified or custom build.
