Doubles and triples look like better value and they are not always the better buy. A single pouch sits exactly where your hand goes, holds one magazine in one orientation, and does not give you a choice to make under pressure. Two singles mounted deliberately beat one double mounted wherever there happened to be room, and they let you leave a gap for a dump pouch or a radio.
It is also the pouch for anyone running mid-caps on a belt rather than a rig. A belt will take three or four singles spaced across the front, which spreads the weight and keeps every magazine reachable with either hand. Stack them in a double and the second one is always the awkward one.
Quick release means the closure opens with one pull rather than needing a buckle found and worked. You get the retention of a closed pouch without the second it normally costs you, which is the right compromise for the spare you actually expect to use.

Good to know before you buy
Buy two, not one. A single pouch is a building block. One on its own is a spare magazine; two or three spaced across a belt or the bottom of a rig is a loadout, and they cost less together than one bigger pouch. The rest are in our ammo pouches section.
Measure your magazine before you commit to a row of them. Viper do not publish a fitment list for this pouch, so if you run something unusually long or fat, buy one and try it before you buy four. Tell us what you shoot and we will give you our honest view.
Space them, do not crowd them. Singles work because each one has clear air around it. Butted up against each other they are harder to get a hand into than a purpose-built double. Belts and rigs are in our belts and harnesses section.
Frequently asked questions
How many magazines does it hold?
One. It is a single pouch, which is the point of it — you decide where each magazine lives rather than accepting a fixed cluster.
What magazines will fit?
Viper do not publish a pattern list for this pouch, so we would rather not promise one. It is a rifle magazine pouch; send us a photo or a model and we will tell you what we think.
Is the quick release a buckle or elastic?
It is a one-pull closure rather than a buckle you have to locate and work. Functionally it sits between an open top pouch and a flap lid: nearly as fast, considerably more secure.
Can I put a pistol magazine in it?
It will go in and it will rattle. A pistol magazine deserves a pistol pouch, and those are in the same section as these.
