Short stroking is the technique of reducing the rearward travel of an AAP-01's bolt during the firing cycle. Less travel means less time per cycle, which means a higher rate of fire and a snappier feel — particularly noticeable in full-auto mode where the cumulative time saving across each round in the burst is significant. The Xeno kit gives you the parts to short-stroke an AAP-01 cleanly, without the hacky workshop approach some players take to get the same result.
The kit is CNC-machined from aircraft-grade aluminium and anodised in three colours — striking blue, deep purple and crimson red. This isn't just for looks (although the retro space aesthetic is genuinely well-executed) — the anodised finish is much more wear-resistant than paint or a plated coating, important for parts that see repeated impact during cycling. The three pieces install inside the AAP-01 to progressively reduce stroke length.
What's clever about the kit is the modular configuration. Running just two of the three pieces gives you a meaningful short-stroke improvement while retaining lockback on empty magazines — which means you still get the visual and tactile feedback when you've run dry. Adding the third piece pushes the rate of fire higher again but does sacrifice lockback. Choose based on how you skirmish: keep lockback if you want a working slide-lock for reloading drills, drop it if outright rate of fire is the only thing you care about.
