VFC's AR-pattern GBBRs run a stock recoil spring tuned as a compromise — strong enough for reliable operation in summer with green gas, light enough not to short-stroke in winter. Both ends of that compromise can be improved on if you're willing to commit to a specific use case. Waldo offers two springs at opposite ends of the curve, and you pick the one that matches what you actually do with the rifle.
Winter 85% (Blue coating) is the cold-weather and efficiency-focused option. Lower tension than stock means the rifle runs more gas-efficient and reliably cycles in cold conditions where the gas pressure drops. You'll get more shots per gas fill and the rifle won't short-stroke when temperatures fall below the comfort zone for green gas. Trade-off is a slightly softer recoil feel, but the cycling stays crisp and consistent. Compatible with VFC 416/M4 GBBRs and other WA-derivative platforms.
Enhanced 140% (Purple coating) goes the other direction — significantly stronger tension delivers a much snappier impulse per shot, which paired with a heavyweight buffer transforms the felt recoil into something far closer to a real-steel firearm. Built for warm-weather skirmish use where you've got the gas pressure to drive the heavier spring reliably. Compatible across the broader VFC/GHK/VT/WA M4 GBBR ecosystem.
