A microswitch has a click, a travel and a service life. An optical sensor has none of those — there is no contact, so nothing wears, and the point at which the shot breaks does not drift as the parts bed in. On a rifle being shot at high rates of fire, that consistency is the whole point.
It also allows a much shorter reset than a mechanical switch can manage, which is why this board is the one specified on MTW builds running the Advanced Electronics package rather than the standard board.
As a spare it matters more than most electronics, because an optical board that has taken a knock will often half-work — firing intermittently or doubling — rather than failing outright, and that is a maddening fault to chase.

Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as the standard replacement trigger board? No. The standard board is a far cheaper microswitch-based part and is listed separately.
Do I need the Advanced Electronics kit as well? This board is part of that package. If your rifle is on the standard loom, check what else the upgrade needs before ordering.
Why is mine doubling? Intermittent or doubled shots on an optical board usually mean a damaged sensor or a dirty gate rather than a settings problem.
