A trigger guard spends its life doing nothing until the rifle lands on it. Then it is the thing between a hard surface and your trigger, and on a forged lower it takes the hit through a single roll pin at one end.
Broken guards are common and awkward — the rifle still shoots, but the trigger is exposed in exactly the way a safety brief says it should not be, and most site marshals will have something to say about it.
It is one of the cheapest parts on the rifle. Keeping one in the box means a broken guard costs you an evening rather than a game day.

Frequently asked questions
Will it fit a Billet Series lower? Check before ordering. The Forged and Billet lowers are not identical and this is the Forged part.
Is the roll pin included? Assume not. Roll pins are cheap and worth having in the drawer regardless.
Can I run without one? You can, but most UK sites will pull you up on it at the safety check.
