Everything forward of the receiver is carried by this one component. The rail clamps to it, the rail carries the optic, the light and the bipod, and if the nut is not square then none of that is either. It is a small piece of aluminium doing structural work.
The common reason to buy one is damage from a previous fitting. Barrel nuts get marked by the wrong spanner, cross-threaded by someone in a hurry, or torqued past the point where the threads still hold, and a damaged nut cannot be rescued.
The other reason is a rail change. If you are moving between Invictus generations it is worth starting with a fresh nut rather than reusing one that has already been through a fit and a strip.
