This is the half of the i5 design people rarely mention until they have owned a mask long enough to need it. DYE made the foam a patent-pending quick-release cartridge, so swapping it is a job measured in seconds rather than an evening with a scraper and a tube of contact adhesive.
The foam itself is a multi-layer open-cell build: high-grade and deliberately soft against the skin, backed by a firmer compression layer that holds the mask steady instead of squashing flat under strap tension. The outermost face carries a terry cloth treatment, which is what stops it feeling clammy once you have been working.
Grey is the neutral option and suits every i5 shell in the range rather than matching one.

Frequently asked questions
How quick is the change, really?
Seconds, not minutes. The cartridge releases from the frame and the new one goes back the same way — there is no glue and nothing to scrape off first.
Will it fit the i4 or the i4 Pro?
No. Those masks use a bonded foam that is glued in, supplied as the i4 foam kit.
Does the grey work with any i5 colourway?
It is the neutral in the range, so yes. DYE do produce the foam in other colours if you would rather match a shell — ask and we will see what is available.
Can I wash it instead of replacing it?
Rinse it in cool water and air-dry it away from heat and that will keep it going a good while. Replace it when it stops recovering its shape, which washing will not fix.
Why would I replace foam at all?
A mask seals on foam, not on plastic. Once the foam packs down the mask moves, the seal breaks at the cheekbones and the lens starts fogging because warm air is getting behind it.
