Microphone element type is one of those specifications nobody thinks about until a radio refuses to behave. Condenser elements suit consumer and commercial gear; a lot of military-standard equipment expects a dynamic element instead, and feeding it the wrong one produces thin, quiet or distorted audio that no amount of gain fixes.

The S10D is Earmor's answer for that side of the fence. Their catalogue describes it as a cantilever moving-coil microphone — moving-coil being the technical name for a dynamic element — and lists it against the M33, M32, M32H, M32X and M32N.

Beyond compatibility, a dynamic element is simply harder to upset. It handles high sound pressure without clipping, which is why they end up in loud environments, and it holds voice clarity when everything around the wearer is going off at once.

Two retailers publish a 150 ohm low-impedance figure for it. Earmor themselves publish no impedance, so we have flagged it as retailer-stated rather than presenting it as a manufacturer specification.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need this or the standard boom? If your radio is a normal commercial handheld, the electret boom is correct and this will not improve anything. Buy the S10D when the equipment expects a dynamic element.

Why is the impedance flagged? Because Earmor do not publish it. Two retailers state 150 ohm. We would rather tell you where a figure came from than present it as gospel.

What if I just want a spare arm? Then the S31 electret boom is the cheaper part — it replaces the arm rather than changing the element type.

Which headsets does it actually fit? Earmor's own list is M33, M32, M32H, M32X and M32N. Several retailers publish a shorter list of M32 and M32H only. We quote the manufacturer's.
