The Vityaz is a 9mm submachine gun built on AK architecture, and VFC have replicated it as a gas gun rather than converting an AK-74 into an approximation of one. The shell is stamped steel, the outer barrel assembly, front sight, gas block, compensator and cleaning rod are all steel, and the markings are period-correct rather than invented. Drop-in real AK furniture fits, which is not something most replicas can claim.
What makes it interesting mechanically is the adjustable bolt travel. Set long stroke and the bolt runs its full cycle for maximum simulation and recoil character; set short stroke and the same gun cycles faster for a higher rate of fire. That is a genuine behavioural switch rather than a tuning tweak, and it lets one gun serve a milsim weekend and a speedsoft afternoon.
The internals back that up. The bolt carrier is a CNC-machined integrated steel assembly running in an enlarged 22mm cylinder, driving a simulated piston in direct blowback the way the real Vityaz does. The fire control group is full steel with a braided wire hammer spring and a cyclic rate reducer. There is a last-round click indicator so you know you are empty without looking, and a dry-fire mode for practice without ammunition.
Hop-up servicing is deliberately easy, and it takes universal VSR-spec bucking and inner barrel — so the aftermarket you already buy from fits it, instead of a proprietary part you have to chase. There is a Warsaw Pact dovetail on the left of the receiver for a period-correct optic.
One compatibility warning that matters here. The bolt carrier assembly and nozzle are not interchangeable with VFC's AK74M, AK105 or AKS74U, and the AKS74U handguard does not fit either. If you already run one of those, treat this as a separate platform for spares rather than an extension of it.

Good to know
Do my VFC AK parts fit it? Externally some do, because it takes real AK furniture. Internally no — the bolt carrier and nozzle are specific to this gun, and the AKS74U handguard will not go on.
What does adjustable bolt travel actually change? Long stroke gives you the full cycle and the strongest recoil feel. Short stroke shortens the cycle so the gun shoots faster. You pick which behaviour you want rather than being stuck with one.
Will it make a UK site limit? The published figure is around 340 fps on a 0.20 gram BB, which is in the right region for a full-auto limit, but that number comes from retailers rather than VFC and gas output moves with temperature. Chronograph it before you play.
Can I upgrade the hop-up? Yes, and easily. It uses VSR-spec bucking and inner barrel, so standard aftermarket parts fit.
Which optic mount does it have? A Warsaw Pact dovetail on the left side of the receiver, so Russian-pattern side mounts fit directly.
