The hammer spring on a VFC GBBR is the part that determines how much gas pressure the rifle uses per cycle. The stock hammer spring is set to a tension that ensures reliable operation across worst-case conditions — cold weather, weaker gas, edge cases — which means in normal conditions it's using more gas than the rifle actually needs. The Efficiency Hammer Spring drops that tension by about 25%, letting the rifle run leaner and getting more shots per gas fill without compromising reliability.

Counterintuitively, a weaker hammer spring works fine in summer despite the assumption that you'd want stronger springs in warm weather.
