We're an HPA specialist shop based at Skirmish Wycombe Airsoft in High Wycombe. Our team uses HPA systems on game days. When someone asks us which HPA rifle to buy, we give them the same answer we're giving you here — an honest breakdown based on what we actually see performing well on the field, not a list of everything we happen to stock.
This guide covers the five HPA rifles we'd recommend to UK players in 2026, who each one is best suited for, and what to budget for a complete ready-to-play setup.
1. Heretic Labs Article 3 — Best for: Speedsoft & CQB
Price: £794.95
The Article 3 is the most asked-about HPA rifle we stock. Heretic Labs is Wolverine Airsoft's speedsoft division, and the Article Series was built from the ground up for competitive, fast-paced play. The Article 3 is the current production model — compact, aggressively styled, and extremely capable in the right hands.
It runs a proprietary HPA engine developed specifically for the Article Series platform. Rate of fire is adjustable up to 35 RPS. The carbon fibre and aluminium construction keeps weight down. The trigger response is immediate. For CQB sites and speedsoft formats, this is the platform the top UK players run.
Who it's for: Players who play CQB or speedsoft predominantly, or who want the fastest trigger response and highest ROF available. Not the right choice if you're primarily a field/woodland player at sites with tight joule limits — the Article Series is optimised for aggressive close-range play.
2. Wolverine MTW Forged Tactical XBR — Best for: All-Round Field Play
Price: £925.95
The XBR is the most capable single-purchase MTW on our shelves. The trim designation tells you everything: X = INFERNO XTS engine, B = BLINC Bluetooth FCU, R = QUAKE recoil stock. You're getting the upgraded XTS engine, app-programmable fire control, and a functioning HPA-driven recoil system in one package.
The forged receiver gives it an authentic AR feel that the billet series can't quite replicate. It's heavier and more robust. For field players who want a realistic platform that performs at the highest level and turns heads at the same time, the Tactical XBR is the one.
The BLINC Bluetooth lets you set ROF, dwell, and burst modes via your phone, and the Auto-Tune function will automatically optimise dwell for your PSI and BB weight if you pair it with a compatible Acetech Bluetooth chronograph. For players new to HPA who want to take the guesswork out of setup, this is genuinely useful.

3. Wolverine MTW Billet Unleashed — Best for: Easiest Entry into HPA
Price: £849.95
The Unleashed is the answer to the most common question we get: "I want an MTW, what else do I need to buy?" The answer with the Unleashed is: nothing. It comes with the WRAITH X integrated tank stock with a 13ci HPA tank built directly into the buttstock, and the MTW Battery Grip. Fill the tank, power the grip, play.
No external airline. No separate tank purchase. No regulator to choose. For players who want to get into HPA without the research overhead of building a complete setup from parts, this is the most straightforward path in. The base platform is the MTW Billet Tactical Gen3 10" SBR with the GEN2 INFERNO engine — a genuinely capable rifle that doesn't compromise on the platform quality to deliver the convenience.
The 13ci tank gives approximately 1,000–1,500 shots per fill. For a full day at a site with a fill station it's ideal. Most UK sites have HPA fills.
4. Wolverine MTW Billet Tactical 10" Gen3 — Best for: Platform Buyers
Price: £769.95
If you already have a tank, regulator, and line — or you're buying the HPA Starter Bundle alongside it — the Billet Tactical Gen3 is the best value entry point into the MTW range. You get the full MTW Billet platform with the GEN2 INFERNO engine and Invictus MK1 M-LOK rail without paying for the WRAITH X kit and Battery Grip if you don't need them.
It's also the best base for upgrades. The Billet Tactical Gen3 is compatible with the full Wolverine ecosystem — BLINC Bluetooth, QUAKE recoil stock, WRAITH X, INFERNO XTS upgrade. If you want to build your MTW over time, start here.

5. Wolverine MTW AK-105 XB — Best for: AK Players
Price: TBC — due into UK approx. May 2026
The most anticipated HPA release of 2026. The MTW AK-105 brings the MTW platform to the AK format — stamped steel receiver, CNC-machined trunnions developed in collaboration with LCT, INFERNO XTS engine, and BLINC Bluetooth FCU. Everything you'd expect from an MTW, in a proper AK body.
If you've always preferred the AK aesthetic over the AR platform but wanted HPA performance, this is exactly what you've been waiting for. We have pre-orders open now with stock due in late May 2026.
