Wolverine MTW vs Heretic Labs Article Series — Which HPA Platform is Right for You?

Written by the Titan Forge Airsoft team, Skirmish Wycombe Airsoft, High Wycombe

If you've decided HPA is the way you're going, the next question is usually this one: MTW or Article Series? Both come from Wolverine Airsoft — the MTW is their flagship field platform, the Article Series is their speedsoft division Heretic Labs' answer to the competitive game. They share DNA but they're built for different things.

We stock both. Our team runs both at Skirmish Wycombe Airsoft. Here's the honest comparison.

The Wolverine MTW — built for the field

The MTW was engineered as a whole platform rather than an afterthought. Wolverine designed the receiver around the HPA engine — so the alignment between the engine, hop-up, and inner barrel is intrinsic to the machining rather than relying on shims and adapters like an AEG conversion. This matters. It's why the MTW is so consistent out of the box.

The range spans from the entry-level Billet Standard through to the top-spec Forged Tactical XBR with INFERNO XTS, BLINC Bluetooth, and QUAKE recoil. The modularity is a genuine advantage — the MTW platform is compatible with real-steel AR grips, stocks, and buffer tubes, so you can configure it exactly how you want over time. Wolverine parts (WRAITH X, QUAKE, BLINC) all bolt on without modification.

It's a field player's platform. Comfortable to carry all day, available in 7", 10", and 14" barrel configurations, and durable enough to take the kind of use a full woodland game day involves.

Choose the MTW if: you play field/woodland predominantly, you want a rifle that looks and handles like an AR-15, you want maximum upgrade and customisation options, or you want the reassurance of a very large support community and a well-documented platform.

The Heretic Labs Article Series — built for speed

Heretic Labs exists because speedsoft players wanted something the MTW wasn't — smaller, lighter, and optimised specifically for CQB and competitive formats. The Article Series delivers that. The carbon fibre and aluminium construction keeps weight down. The platform is compact. The engine was developed specifically for the Article Series body rather than adapted from the MTW.

At Skirmish Wycombe Airsoft we see Article Series rifles on players who are serious about their game. It's not a casual purchase — it's a tool for players who've thought carefully about what they want and concluded that the speedsoft format is where they perform best. The trigger response and ROF are at the top end of what any HPA platform delivers.

The aesthetic is polarising, which is the point. The Article Series looks like nothing else on the field. If you want your kit to stand out and you back it up with the playstyle to match, it works.

Choose the Article Series if: you play CQB or speedsoft predominantly, you want the lightest and fastest-responding HPA platform available, you're not fussed about AR real-steel compatibility, or you've been playing airsoft seriously for a while and you know exactly what you want.
