A Vietnam-era XM177 built as a modern HPA gun, limited to 200 worldwide. Wolverine's first MTW-spec carry-handle upper, a forged lower with retro engravings, period CAR15 furniture, and an INFERNO XTS with BLINC behind it. Each one numbered 1 to 200.

The Fossil Collection is Wolverine doing period builds properly rather than putting old-looking furniture on a current gun. For Dig 2 that meant making a part they had never made before: an A1 upper receiver with a carry handle and a teardrop forward assist, which is the detail that makes an XM177 read correctly and the thing no MTW had until this.

The rest follows the same discipline. A forged lower carries limited edition retro engravings, the furniture is a CAR15 six-hole handguard with a CAR15 stock and an A1 grip, and the front end is an 11-inch pencil barrel with a gas tube finished with an XM177 E2 moderator complete with its grenade launcher ring. Front and rear sights are adjustable, as they were. It was developed with TC Designs.

Underneath the period correctness it is current. The engine is an INFERNO XTS with its extended-stroke poppet and nozzle, and the board is a BLINC Bluetooth FCU, so rate of fire, dwell, burst and saved profiles all live in an app. A Vietnam-era carbine that you tune from a phone is a strange and very good combination.

Worth noting on the pressure: this model runs 80 to 150 PSI, which is not the 80 to 140 the rest of the MTW range uses. Set it on the gauge for this gun rather than carrying a number over from another one, and chrono it at the site either way.

Two hundred were made and each is serialised within that run, so the number on the receiver is the number in the edition.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the pressure window different? Wolverine publish 80 to 150 PSI for this model against 80 to 140 for the rest of the MTW range. Use the figure for the gun in front of you and chrono at the site.

How limited is it really? Two hundred units, each serialised within that run. The number on the receiver tells you which one you have.

Can I modernise it? Yes, and that is part of the appeal. It is MTW-Spec underneath, so a rail, a modern stock and real-steel AR furniture all fit if you ever want to take it out of period.

Does the carry handle take an optic? A carry-handle upper has no flat-top rail, so an optic needs a carry-handle mount or a rail that replaces the furniture. Ask us what you are trying to mount and we will tell you what it needs.

Which magazine comes with it? A metal mid-cap. Wolverine do not state the capacity, and most M4 and M16 AEG magazines will feed it.

Is the engine the current one? Yes. It is an INFERNO XTS with a BLINC Bluetooth FCU, which is the same pairing as the current XB trims.
