- description
The XM177 is one of the most storied carbines in the AR-15 lineage. A compact M16 derivative issued to US special-operations units during the Vietnam War, it was carried by MACV-SOG teams who needed a shorter, lighter weapon for reconnaissance deep in contested territory. The stubby moderator, slick lines and collapsing stock came to define the look of an entire era of special-operations hardware.
Dig 2 is the second release in Wolverine's Fossil Collection — the range they reserve for their most limited and most collectible builds. Only 200 units exist anywhere in the world. Each one carries its own serial number and ships with a hand-numbered certificate of authenticity, and the forged lower is engraved with the Fossil Collection logo and retro markings unique to this run. Wolverine have confirmed there is no restock: when the 200 are gone, this exact build is not made again.
None of that comes at the expense of performance. Under the period-correct exterior sits a full Forged MTW — real AR-15 receiver forgings machined to MTW-Spec, an INFERNO XTS HPA engine, a BLINC Bluetooth FCU and Intrinsic Alignment for repeatable inner-barrel positioning. It runs, shoots and takes the full range of MTW-Spec upgrade parts exactly like any other Forged MTW. This is a collectible you can actually skirmish.
What's on the outside
Every external detail is period-correct to the XM177E2. It wears an A1 carry-handle upper with a teardrop forward assist — Wolverine's first MTW-Spec carry-handle upper — with adjustable A1 front and rear iron sights, over an 11-inch pencil barrel and gas tube. The CAR15 six-hole round handguard, CAR15 collapsing stock and A1 pistol grip complete the silhouette, finished with an XM177E2 moderator carrying the correct grenade-launcher ring. The forged lower is engraved with the Fossil Collection logo and retro markings.

Good to know before you buy
This is a genuine limited edition: numbered, certificated and engraved, with no restock once the run of 200 sells through — and, unlike most collector pieces, it is fully field-ready rather than a wall-hanger.
It is an HPA rifle, so it needs an external tank, secondary regulator and line to fire — none of which are included. The FCU runs on a 7.4V mini LiPo (not included), it feeds from standard M4 AEG magazines, and one metal midcap magazine comes in the box.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need UKARA to buy this?
Yes — it is a realistic imitation firearm, so you need UKARA registration or a valid defence. We verify at checkout.
Is it a display piece or can I skirmish it?
Fully skirmishable. It is a complete Forged MTW with an INFERNO XTS engine and BLINC FCU, and it runs and upgrades identically to any other MTW — the limited-edition status is about the build and provenance, not a performance compromise.
What do I need to run it?
An HPA tank (68ci is our recommendation), a secondary regulator and a line — none included — plus a 7.4V mini LiPo for the FCU and standard M4 AEG magazines. One metal midcap is included.
What makes it collectible, and will there be more?
It is capped at 200 units worldwide, each individually numbered with a certificate of authenticity and an engraved lower. Wolverine have confirmed no restock on Fossil Collection builds.
